One evening in Moshi, Pascal sat with friends on the rooftop terrace of the old pharmacy near Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center. As European medical students, they often gathered there to enjoy the breathtaking view of Mount Kilimanjaro glowing in the sunset. The spot was a favorite for the group, though primarily visited by international students and rarely shared with others.
This made it all the more notable when Fred, a local pastor at the hospital, joined them. Occasionally, Fred would visit the rooftop, striking up conversations and connecting with new people. It was during one of these moments that Fred and Pascal met—a chance encounter that would spark an incredible partnership.
Fred extended an invitation to Pascal and his friends to visit his village, Mikocheni, a Maasai community off the beaten tourist path. Intrigued by the opportunity to learn about Maasai culture, Pascal and his friends accepted, bringing small gifts for the families and children.
The visit was a warm and memorable experience. Fred introduced them to his family, shared insights into Maasai traditional medicine, and the community welcomed them with dances and heartfelt hospitality. The village, not typically frequented by visitors, left a strong impression on Pascal and his group.
Towards the end of the tour, Fred shared his dream. Standing beside two carefully arranged piles of tiles, he explained how he and his family had been saving to build a school for the village, buying materials little by little. This dream of creating a space for education deeply resonated with Pascal and his friends, inspiring them to launch a fundraising project to support Fred’s vision.
From that day on, the idea grew steadily. The initial funds helped Fred establish the NGO in Tanzania, while Pascal and his network set up a supporting organization in Germany. Together, step by step, we’re working to make the dream of a school in Mikocheni a reality.
Join us on this journey and help bring the gift of education to Mikocheni Village!
